MISSION
Flying Emu or Fe26, was developed as an entry-level pre-employment program to address barriers that many Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people face when seeking employment in FIFO.
These include:
BEING AWAY FROM MOB & THEIR LAND
MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES AROUND LONELINESS WHICH LEADS TO ANXIETY/DEPRESSION
EXPERIENCING A FLIGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME
HAVING NO COMMUNITY/FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE WHEN WORKING AWAY
FEELING GUILTY ABOUT WORKING ON
UNKNOWN COUNTRY
HAVING NO SUPPORT & ACCESS TO AN INDIGENOUS MENTOR
BEGINNINGS
Flying Emu (or Fe26) started as an idea after we thought there had to be a better way to support Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people into careers in the FIFO industry.
It was initially called Momentum Academy, but the idea remained the same over 4 years of development.
In 2021, the name Flying Emu 26 took its spot and has remained ever since.

THE LOGO
For those who paid attention in Science, you would notice this smart reference to the Mining industry.
The logo depicts a capital 'F' and a lowercase 'e' with the void filled by an emu. The number '26' is found just above the right corner of the letter 'e'.
'Fe' is the symbol for Iron, a chemical element most commonly found in the Pilbara. The '26' represents the atomic number of Iron.
THE NAME
Yes, Emus don't fly, but they can if you believe.
It is known that the Emu is a flightless bird, however, it still has potential. Our team act as the wind beneath their wings to give them the gift of flight.
We always remind our candidates to aim high!
THE APPROACH
Flying Emu is a pre-employment program for up to 5 days, awarded to suitably qualified Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders seeking
entry-level FIFO roles.
Through individualised support and mentoring, Flying Emu will identify up to 12 participants in each tour of the program.
An Indigenous mentor will always be present on Country during Fe26.
